Charles Alistair Geoffrey Dewhirst is a British Conservative Party politician who has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Bridlington and The Wolds since 2024.
Early life
Dewhirst comes from a pig farming family near Driffield in East Yorkshire. Dewhirst attended the University of Edinburgh before moving to London to begin a career in sports broadcasting. Dewhirst then worked as a parliamentary aide before working for a global communications agency, where he was involved in the introduction of the Groceries Code Adjudicator.
Political career
In 2010 Dewhirst was elected to a councillor role for the Conservatives in Hammersmith, and in 2012 he joined UK Sport shortly before the 2012 Olympic Games.
Dewhirst was the Conservative candidate for the constituency of Hammersmith in the 2015 general election and the 2017 general election.
He was the deputy leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council. Immediately prior to beginning his parliamentary campaign, he was the chief policy adviser for the National Pig Association, who Dewhirst started working for in 2020.
